After completing the Foundation Course at NSCD (Northern School of Contemporary Dance) in 2011 and graduating from SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance) in 2017, Giulia Tornarolli, born in 1992 in Italy, embarked on her freelance career as a dancer and performer. Since then, Giulia has collaborated with a variety of artists, including Sebastian Zuber; Ann Katrin Cooper and Tobias Spori (Panorama Dance Theater); Edivaldo Ernesto; Martina Marina, Riccardo Meneghini, and Marion Sparber; Andrea Bernard; Törsten Schilling; and Klevis Elmazaj. To this day Giulia regularly collaborates with opera director Christof Loy across various productions in Amsterdam, Madrid, Oslo, and Basel. In 2019, she was awarded "Best Actress" at the Top Short Film Festival Berlin for her role in the short movie “A Deeper Need” directed by Lilia Andreotti. Later that year, she unveiled her first work in progress, "Ruth," at the Alps Move festival and released her debut dance film titled “Garden.” Beyond her work as a performer, Giulia also works as an educator, offering improvisation-based classes tailored to both professionals and dance enthusiasts. These classes focus on movement exploration and use of performative layers, aiming to equip students with tools for independent and flexible practice. These same tools are integral to Giulia's ongoing development of her own movement language. Driven by her interest in exposure, fragility, and communication, Giulia has developed a performance practice centered on instant composition: she crafts performative interventions specifically designed for events that traditionally do not feature dance, aiming to challenge herself in front of diverse audiences and infuse movement language into unexpected contexts.
